Another airport. This time to Sydney and to George Street by the harbour.  First impressions are that this is the place to be.

This is the view from the hotel room.

Yes it has a view of Sydney harbour. Honest.

dsc03260We are just beside a wee market, across the road from the Contempory Art museum and just round from the ferry Wharfs and beside the opera house.
The Holiday Inn is OK a bit lifeless and hasn’t much character but it’s location totally makes up for this.

We take a walk down to the Harbour for a cold one and I take a photo of a busker.

An old guy stops me with the quip, ‘You’ld never guess how much he earns, I know, $1400 on average a week. He is 76 and doesn’t need it, but sure what else would you be doing.’ Well I say you couldn’t be bad to that and so we get chatting. It seems he spotted the Irishman’s white legs and approached me because of that. Suddenly he has the Belfast accent that only those who once were from Belfast but have long since lost their accent have. Anyway, he is from home long long time ago and harks back to places, dance halls etc. That have long ago disappeared.
He must be at least in his 70’s. so he gives us, as he says the low down on what we should do tomorrow.
We part and I get that beer that I have been waiting on.
An Angry Man.

From there it is back to hotel and then out for a damm good Thai meal. They seem to do good Thai meals in Australia. I suppose it is relatively close by.
On the way back we pop into the bar next door to us and we meet some folks from the Gold coast. They come here every month for a weekend break and we get their address to stay in their drive once we get themotorhome on the go.
More suggestions and places to see.
People to meet.
Maggie makes friends with the singer, a young student who is hoping to make it big some day. She is coming to stay with us in Belfast and Maggie is going to arrange gigs for her.

Later we go up to the roof to get a view of the nightime Sydney skyline and the Opera House, of course.

Then to bed, another iconic location and another day of looking at Australia, experiencing a little bit and making some more memories. As ever it is the people you meet that are the most special memories.
